Our  Story

We used to be completely broken but are now grateful for undeserved redemption, astonished by amazing Grace, healed by forgiveness and humbled by the divine invitation to be included in the greatest cause on earth. We serve a good and perfect God. The nations are His dwelling and our lives are His vessels. We have compassion for all, and our hearts are always open.

Salem was established in 1800 as the second Methodist congregation in Burke County.  At one time, Salem was part of the South Carolina Conference.  Over the years, Salem was part of a circuit with other churches (including Gilboa and Denton's Chapel) until launching out on it's own in 1985.  Today Salem continues to thrive and serve the Salem community in Morganton, NC.

Our  Beliefs

Jesus is central to everything we do.  We worship, serve, play, and delight in His powerful Name.  United Methodists share a common heritage with all Christians.  According to our foundational statement of beliefs in the Book of Discipline, we share basic affirmations in common with all Christian communities.  Click here to learn and read more.

God

God, who is one, is revealed in three distinct persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Jesus

We believe in the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ. God became human in Jesus of Nazareth; and his life, death and resurrection demonstrates God's redeeming love.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is God's present activity in our midst. When we sense God's leading, God's challenge, or God's support or comfort, it's the Holy Spirit at work.

Human Beings

Genesis 1:27 asserts that we've been made in the image of the Creator. Like God we have the capacity to love and care, to communicate, and to create.

The Church

The church is the body of Christ, an extension of Christ’s life and ministry in the world today.

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is God’s Word and is the primary authority for our faith and practice.

God’s Reign

The kingdom or reign of God is both a present reality and future hope.
